RIP ALEX CHILTON

While growin' up in the sixties, I remember Rock & Roll AM radio as being a part of my daily life. Living a "stones throw" from NYC, I got all the big stations all the time and heard every new single, all the top 1o's and the best DJS in the country. Short, poppy, danceable (not me tho) , easy to sing along with and remember later. Unfortunately, I got caught up in the late 60's-early 70's "jam-band "scene and got away from the music of my real youth. Don't get me wrong. Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, CSNY, etc. were and are some of long time faves and music influences. But the sounds that were the "funnest" were the Beatles, Hollies, all the Brit bands and their American cousins like the Byrds , CCR, etc. Alex Chilton, I am sure, came out of the same scene, just from another part of the USA. From the Boxtops to the Big Star days, he wrote a bunch of great pop tunes and influenced a lot of future rock bands. He certainly influenced me in my listening habits. It don't got to be long and dark-short and sweet will do!!!
